Alma School celebrates Casual Day
Every year the Alma School celebrates this day on the first Friday of September.
Police took part in the recent Casual Day festivities at the Alma School for persons with disabilities. Every year the school celebrates this day on the first Friday of September.
The Casual Day project involves the selling of Casual Day stickers as a fundraiser. Alma School learners were allowed to come to school wearing different colours and costumes. Each grade had a theme they had to use to dress up as.
Themes varied from the King of hearts to the Springbok rugby team. Each grade excitedly paraded on the school grounds where the event took place to show off their themes.
Teachers also dressed colourfully and participated on the day. Learners were entertained with various activities. They even had the chance to decorate a fort.
Singer Jaycee Crause paid a visit to the school. Sergeant Larissa Laas of the Wonderboompoort police station, with other police officers, visited the school and distributed sweets.
The police drove around the grounds in three vehicles while Sergeant Laas handed out sweets to the children. She also participated in the activities with the learners. The Wonderboompoort police station is actively involved in the school and its festivities. All the funds will go towards the school.
Alma School is a registered non-profit organisation.
The school was opened in 1963, when parents of children with disabilities formed a care group to give each other free time to do other things.
Today it falls under the Gauteng education department, which provides special education to children with extreme intellectual disabilities.
