Five west ‘trouble-makers’ finally caught

Among the five were two notorious criminals charged with murder and robbery.

After a long, intense search, the five men accused of terrorising the community of Atteridgeville were finally caught, police confirmed on Tuesday.

Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu applauded the good work done by the Atteridgeville police in arresting Kutullo Matheba, also known as “Van Damme”, and Emmanuel Makondo, also known own as “Imma”. They were two of the most wanted among those arrested.

The pair were charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery, among others, according to Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

“The community can now breathe a sigh of relief following the arrest of the five,” she said.

During court proceedings on Monday, two of the five men opted not to apply for bail and were remanded to Kgosi Mampuru prison until next Monday.

She said the operation that led to the arrests of these two main suspects was led by Constable MM Mathipa.

Nkhwashu said he was excited by the swift manner in which police took to the case and the swift arrests they made.
