Man to appear in court for allegedly raping 19-year-old woman

A 27-year-old man will appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on rape and house robbery charges.

He is expected to apply for bail.

The man is accused of raping a 19-year-old woman at Mashimong in the north of Pretoria in the early morning hours of Saturday 31 August.

“The victim’s 27-year-old sister begged him to stop but he continued with his assault,” said police spokesperson Captain Sarah Lesabane.

The alleged rapist took the women’s two cellphones and fled the house.

It was reported that the sisters were sleeping in the house when they heard the sound of a window breaking.

Lesabane said the sisters then saw a male wearing black clothes and a balaclava.

Lesabane said when the suspect was arrested the following day, the police found the two cellphones belonging to the sisters on him.

The man appeared before the Moretele Magistrate’s Court on 2 September and was remanded in custody.
