Police warn of break-ins at Centurion security complexes
“The robberies tend to happen in the early morning hours.”
The Lyttelton police are urging residents in security complexes in Die Hoewes to be on the lookout for house robbers.
Spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said between two and four men seem to be targeting homes in the area.
“The robbers appeared to be armed, although no one has been injured thus far,” Miller said.
“Their modus operandi is to break locks and force open doors. In the past few instances they’ve managed to enter the homes through the kitchen doors.”
“The robberies tend to happen in the early morning hours.”
Miller said the men had not appeared violent as yet.
“We are again urging residents to take the necessary safety precautions,” he said.
“It is important to know all your emergency numbers and never to leave your keys in a gate or lock.”
Miller said residents should replace locks when moving into a new home or after keys are stolen.
“Be sure to make good use of outside lighting and close any curtains after dark to ensure activities in the home cannot be seen from the outside.”
If your home is broken into, Miller suggested that you immediately contact your local police station.
“Wait until fingerprints and statements have been taken before touching anything,” he said.
“It is vital to have a list of the make, model and serial numbers of electrical appliances and other valuable equipment to aid in investigations.”
