Tshwane police nab 190 in east blitz

The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from rape, assault, business robbery, burglaries, fraud and hijacking.

Ten suspected rapists were among the 192 people arrested during Thursday’s multidisciplinary joint operations conducted by the Tshwane district police.

The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from rape, assault, business robbery, burglaries, fraud and hijacking.

Tshwane district police are serious about reducing crime and to bring perpetrators of gender-based violence to book,” said Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

“Law enforcement officers conducted a roadblock on the corner of Lynnwood and Rosemary streets in Lynnwood where fines to the value of R34 100 were issued for road traffic offences.

“More than 240 vehicles and 500 people were searched while four undocumented persons were arrested during the roadblock,” she said.

Weilbach said five illegal liquor outlets were closed down in Plastic View informal settlement.

“A fine was also issued for non-compliance of the liquor act and three jukeboxes were confiscated.”

Weilbach said there has been a high volume of robberies in the vicinity of liquor outlets.

“Persons who are under the influence of alcohol are also an easy target for criminals. As a result robberies are high in the vicinity of liquor outlets. Therefore the SAPS do strict compliance inspections at liquor outlets.”

Tshwane district commissioner Major-General Daniel Mthombeni commended all the role-players involved in the successful operation.

He assured Tshwane communities that these operations would continue and that perpetrators who committed crime and gender-based violence would be brought to book.
