West ‘eyesore’ railway cleaned
The clean up of the railway line that runs through wards 1 and 55 was on Friday.

Pretoria West residents went all out last week, to clean up their area.
The clean up was launched thanks to Coca-Cola factory employees in Booysens, said local ward councillor Frik van Wyk.
He said the clean up was on Friday, at the railway line which runs through wards 1 and 55.
Van Wyk said the railway line, which was no longer in use, ran from Bremer Street to the local post office.
Coke invited ward councillors, Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa and some MMCs.
“Everyone grabbed a few garbage disposal bags and helped to clean the area,” he said.
He thanked everyone who was involved.
“The railway line was a great eyesore for residents of ward 1 and 55,” he said.

“While initiatives like these are always welcomed with open arms, I know that it will look the same as it was in a month or two.”
He said the metro was looking at a more permanent solution to keep the area clean.
Van Wyk urged residents not to dump illegally and to help keep the area clean.
“Take responsibility and help keep the area clean,” he said.
Locals welcomed the clean up with open arms.
Resident and activist Johan Cloete thanked everyone involved in the clean-up.
“Thank you to everyone involved and ward councillors, Frik van Wyk and Elma Nel,” he said.
“I would like to appeal to the community and the schools where there are hawkers, please address them and teach them to keep the area tidy.

“Let us now proceed with keeping the area clean and the other cleaning projects that we are already doing every second weekend in ward 1.
“Responsibility starts with yourself,” he said.
“If you only keep your property and sidewalk clean, it will already make a massive difference.”
He said it was sometimes needed to take action on your own.
“It does not help we keep on complaining and no one does anything to help the situation,” he said.
“If we work together, we can achieve so much more.”
