Praise for pair after pensioner robbed in north store

Two managers at a Wonderboom Junction supermarket have been praised for their role after an elderly customer was robbed in the store this week.

Two managers at a Wonderboom Junction supermarket have been praised for their role after an elderly customer was robbed in the store this week.

Marthina Bosman’s purse was stolen while she was getting some groceries. To her horror, she only realised when she was about to pay for her purchases that her purse was gone.

She was close to tears when a manager approached her.

“She then started crying as she didn’t know what to do and Linah (Mashiane) brought her to the office,” the store’s manager Jaco Kleynsmith said.

Bosman was given water and calmed down by the two while deciding what to do.

“I then started to call banks to stop her cards and credit cards and offered to pay for her groceries,” Kleynsmith said.

He then accompanied the elderly woman to her car, packed her groceries into her boot and also paid for her parking ticket.

“Later in the day, I called her to make sure she got home safely,” he said.

Bosman was full of praise for the two managers.

“I am so grateful to Jaco Kleynsmith and Linah Mashiane for helping,” Bosman told Rekord.

Mashiane, the store’s customer service manager, said it was an example of ubuntu.

“It’s just a simple act of humanity and showing our customers that we care,” she said.

Wonderboom Junction spokesperson Elsabe Kelly-Gliddon said she was proud of the two managers for what they did for the elderly woman.
