Panga found at Mamelodi school, pupil warned

Police arrested about 400 people for various crimes including possession of drugs, murder and assault.

A child was found in possession of a panga during a search at a Mamelodi school over the weekend.

The search on Friday was part of a joint operation between the local police, traffic officials and community patrollers.

“The learner was warned for possession of a dangerous weapon inside the school premises,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

“The team also searched around a local shopping centre and arrested six suspects for possession of drugs.”

Meanwhile, the Soshanguve K9 unit arrested a 30-year-old man at Block FF for possession of a stolen Toyota Hilux.

“The arrest was made after police received a tip-off from a member of the public,” Maheso said.

In an unrelated incident, three suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs and suspected stolen property.

“The stolen property included an LG amplifier,  LG DVD player and a pair of shoes,” Maheso said.

The weekend saw about 400 people arrested for various crimes, 180 of which were for possession of drugs.

Other crimes included assault, malicious damage to property, various forms of robberies, murders, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen properties, unlicensed firearms, and drinking in public.

“Those arrested will be appearing at different magisterial courts around Tshwane district.”
