UPDATE: Amy’Leigh: One accused granted bail

Leatitia Nel was the only accused who was granted a steep bail of R25 000.

One of the four people accused of kidnapping Amy’Leigh de Jager in September has been granted bail in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court.

Tharina Human, Leatitia Nel, Pieter van Zyl and the fourth accused, Bofokeng Molemohi, face charges of kidnapping and extortion.

Leatitia Nel was the only accused who was granted a steep bail of R25 000.

Human, Nel and Van Zyl were arrested shortly after the little girl was found safe in the morning hours of 3 September. The fourth suspect, Molemohi, was arrested on 23 September.

In the bail application outcome magistrate Hussain Khota said both Human and Van Zyl are flight risks, hence their bail was refused.

Amy’Leigh de Jager was snatched from her mother, Angeline on 2 September while she dropped her two children off at the Kollegepark Primary School.

Amy Leigh was pushed into a white Toyota Fortuner.

Not long afterwards, Amy Leigh’s father, Wynand, received a call from an unknown man demanding a ransom of R2-million.

Constable Clayton Motloung, the investigating officer in the case, was the first witness called to the stand in the bail application proceedings.

The case has been postponed until 13 November for the case to be referred to the high court for trail.
