Joy all round for north ear op girl
Larochelle will have to wait until November to know when her next ear operation will take place.

The young Montana girl who underwent an ear operation last month was back to being her usual self.
Larochelle Bam (6) on 25 September, underwent a three-hour mastoidectomy to remove the cholesteatoma diagnosed in her left ear in July.
“She is just happy her ear doesn’t smell anymore,” her mother Leechelle Bam.
Larochelle was now back in school and has a busy week ahead.
“She is busy preparing for her grade 0 graduations and two upcoming concerts at school. She is her old busy self again.”
Larochelle had a follow-up appointment with the doctor last week, to remove the stitches behind her ear.
“Dr Carpenter is really satisfied with her ear after the operation. He is also satisfied with the newly implanted eardrum,” Leechellle said.
Larochelle will see the doctor again in two weeks time, for a hearing test and will perhaps then only find out what the next step would be.
She will also have to undergo another computerised tomography (CT) scan.

Leechelle said Larochelle was expected to undergo a follow-up operation where the doctor would insert a prosthesis into her ear where most of the bones have perished due to cholesteatoma. The prosthesis can cost anything from R15 000 and more.
She said the family would have to raise funds to pay for that operation as well. Previously, the Bam family joined local charity, Caring Daisies to raise funds for first Larochelle’s operation.
Leechelle said only after meeting with the doctor in November would they have an idea of about the next procedure and how much it would cost.
“The next operation will happen in six months’ time. We are going to try schedule the operation for in the school holidays so that she doesn’t miss out on school.”
