Donation shop boasts new jacket

Solidarity Helping Hand’s welfare shop in Silverton, now trading under the name of Ons Winkel, boasts a brand new facelift.

Solidarity Helping Hand’s welfare shop in Silverton, now trading under the name of Ons Winkel, boasts a brand new facelift.

“We are looking forward to making a difference in the community and we welcome all residents with open arms,” said the shop’s new owner Claudia van Hulst.

The newly revamped shop is part of more than 50 similar donation shops nationwide.

While the store is located in the east of Pretoria, Helping Hand spokesperson Phillip Bruwer said that this store attracted a lot of people from both the east and Moot.

Ons Winkel is located in Plantation Street.

It also boasts a new layout branded with Helping Hand’s corporate identity.

The revamped store has just officially reopened.

Anything – from clothes, furniture, antiques and kitchenware to clothing, bedding, curtains, toys, shoes, sports equipment and technological goods – can be donated to them.

Bruwer said Ons Winkel takes these goods, sells them and donates the money to Helping Hand’s study fund among other things.

He said the fund offers interest-free student loans to needy students who qualify to continue their studies.

“The proceeds are also being used for several other Helping Hand projects that seek to fight poverty,” he said.

Du Toit said residents can help make a difference.

Ons Winkels is Solidarity Helping Hand initiative.

Their first donation shop opened in Centurion in 2010.

Here members of the public could donate second-hand items or items they didn’t anymore use to charity.

The initiative was so popular that other donation shops subsequently opened in towns in all the provinces.

In 2016, the donation stores were placed under one banner and began trading under the name Ons Winkels.
