‘Most influential’ MMC scoops another award
"Councillor Senkubuge has led the city's roads and transport department to a number of achievements in the short time of being in office."

The Tshwane metro roads and transport MMC was again recognised for her work when she scooped her second award in less than three months at the Women in Transport Awards.
“I would like to send a heartfelt congratulatory message to Sheila Senkubuge for winning the Excellence in Leadership award,” mayor Stevens Mokgalapa said.
The award ceremony was hosted by the City of Ethekwini.
“In August she walked away with the award for the most influential woman in local government at the African Pan Awards,” he said with pride.
Mokgalapa explained the Women in Transport Awards provided the platform to recognise, reward and celebrate the success of women transforming the transport sector.

“Councillor Senkubuge has been leading the city’s roads and transport department which has made a number of achievements in the short time of being in office,” he said.
Mokgalapa explained Senkubuge’s department was at the forefront of a numbers of firsts in the province and country.
“Her department was the first to launch online booking systems for renewal of driver’s license renewal which the Gauteng province took up and followed [and it was], the first to launch the automated collection system in the country,” he explained.
Mokgalapa added they had the “utmost faith” that she and her team would continue with “the good work of excellent service” to Tshwane residents.
Senkubuge’s award came just days before she, and the rest of the metro, in partnership with the roads ad transport department in Gauteng along with the C40 City Finance Facility host a walking and cycling Indaba in Hatfield on Thursday.
“We have collaborated with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to deliver NMT with regard to the current upgrades to the K69 and Solomon Mahlangu Roads.
“These upgrades are designed to provide cycling space and facilities to serve the current users of the roads,” she said.

Senkubuge added that all future upgrades to provincial roads would have a strong non-motorised transport (NMT) component.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the Indaba would form part of the annual Hatfield car-free festival activities and would take place under the banner of “Creating a NMT friendly city”.
“The underlying aim of the festival is to raise awareness as well as reinforce the importance of considering walking and cycling more than depending on cars as the primary mode of transport,” he said.
