Taxi and bus commuters educated on gender-based crimes
The awareness campaign follows a recent motorcade demonstration by hundreds of taxi operators through the streets of Pretoria.
The SA Local and Long-Distance Taxi and Bus Organisation has launched a campaign to educate men at various taxi ranks in Pretoria in the hope of curbing gender-based crimes in the taxi community.
“We saw a need to start educating our brothers and fathers on what is right and what is wrong,” said organisation spokesperson Barkos Sithole.
Sithole said taxi drivers were the first line of defence for women being attacked at taxi ranks.
He said within the taxi industry and community, education was required on how women were to be treated.
“Women and everyone else should feel comfortable in any clothes they wear at a taxi rank.”
