A man was caught red-handed with alleged stolen cellphone tower batteries worth more than R700 000 in the north of Pretoria.

A man was caught red-handed with alleged stolen cellphone tower batteries worth more than R700 000 in the north of Pretoria.
Sinoville police were called to an MTN cellphone tower in Doornpoort on Wednesday after a former contractor was allegedly found in the possession of six stolen batteries.
“A Bidvest Protea Coin vehicle was patrolling the area when they found a man on site. On questioning the man, the patrollers discovered he was in possession of the batteries,” a spokesperson for the Sinoville police Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said.
The man was arrested and a case of theft was opened.

“A total of 24 batteries were recovered with an estimated value of over R700 000,” said Van Dyk, adding that more arrests were expected to follow.
Sinoville station commander Colonel Maria Roberts applauded the hard work and the collaboration between police and other security stakeholders to help combat crime. She praised the detectives for their determination which led to the recovery of the stolen items.
