10th sidewalk champion announced in the Moot

Attie and Elsabé Claassens from Malherbe Street was awarded as the winners for October.

The 10th winner of a unique monthly competition in the Moot was announced this week.

Attie and Elsabé Claassens from Malherbe Street are the winners for October of the sidewalk of the month competition in Capital Park.

The handover was done on Friday by Donne-Li Johnson of Real One Real Estate at the premises.

“We love working in the garden,” Elsabé told Rekord.

“What is not to love – it’s quiet and very therapeutic.”

She said they only had a gardener to cut the grass once every two weeks.

“My husband works away from home quite a lot and that is where the gardener comes in handy,” she said.

The couple said they had been living in Capital Park for 10 years.

“We love the community,” she said.

The Claassens motivated other residents to take part in the sidewalk of the month competition.

The competition is the concept of the Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association.

The competition was launched in May last year and the trophy was awarded to the first winner by former mayor, Solly Msimanga.

Msimanga, who is also a resident of the area, applauded the initiative.

The trophy is awarded monthly, not only to the most beautiful sidewalk but to the most well-maintained.
