FOLLOW UP: Massive west informal settlement fire put out, roads closed

30 containers burn down and three people hospitalised.

The fire that broke out on Monday afternoon, at the Bremer Street informal settlement and destroyed about 30 containers has been extinguished.

The Tshwane emergency management service spokesperson Charles Mabaso confirmed the fire was extinguished.

“Firefighters on the scene are however sill extinguishing spot fires.”

Mabaso said 30 containers burned down and the shacks were still being counted.

“Three people have been taken to the Tshwane district hospital for minor injuries.”

Bremmer Street north and south were still closed to traffic at the R80 highway and Van der Hoff Street

DA councillor, Elma Nel said food has been made available for the residents of the informal settlement for tonight.
