North man still waiting for metro to fix sewage spill – eight months on
A resident claims the municipality has been ignoring his numerous complaints about an “unbearable” sewerage spill in the area since January.

A Soshanguve resident claims the municipality has been ignoring his numerous complaints about an “unbearable” sewerage spill in the area since January.
“The place is stinking and it has become a health hazard,” said Block H resident Johannes Nyathi.
“It has also gotten worse now that it is summer because of the heat. We just hope that it can rain so we can have some relief from the smell.”
Nyathi said living in his house was no longer bearable because of the spill across from his house.
He said they had been living with the problem since December last year.
“When you speak to the metro’s call centre agents, all they do is tell you that a team will be sent.”
He said he most recently called the metro three weeks ago to report the issue and was again told that a team would be dispatched.

Nyathi said a team was dispatched in January to fix the problem, but that the spill was back a few weeks later.
He said the metro workers dispatched in January were responding to a call he had made a month earlier.
“Only weeks after it was fixed, the problem was back again. The last time I called them was three weeks ago and I am still waiting.”
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashego said they were aware of the matter.
“It is receiving attention as it was escalated from the City’s region 1 office for intervention by the main office,” said Mashego.
“A skilled service provider who will remedy the situation will be enlisted in due course. The City does attend to call-outs and complaints and clears blockages as and when they come to our attention.”
