Chaos as shots fired in west cash heist
Police have mobilised the 72-hour activation plan following a CIT heist in Pretoria West on Friday evening.
Chaos broke out on Friday night, when a group of unknown men bombed a cash-in-transit vehicle on the R80 Mabopane highway in Pretoria West.
According to Johan van Staden of the Hercules CPF an explosion first went off before several shots were fired into traffic as the unknown men robbed the cash vehicle. The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Van Staden was one of the first responders on the scene.
“I immediately started cordoning off the area,” Van Staden said.
“After the initial explosion the robbers fired shots at oncoming traffic, bring the traffic to a standstill.”

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the cash vehicle was travelling from Soshanguve to Pretoria on Friday, around 19:15, when the vehicle was shot at.
“The CIT vehicle was shot at by occupants in a white Ford Ranger compelling the driver of the CIT vehicle to stop. The driver and his crew alighted from the CIT vehicle and fled into a nearby bush,” Muridili said.
Muridili said the robbers used explosives to gain access to the money.
“They fled with an undisclosed amount in Ford Ranger as well as a black BMW.”
The two security guards were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries for further treatment.“Police have mobilised the 72-hour activation plan.”

According to Van Staden several vehicles were damaged during the shooting.
“In one of the vehicles was a child aged about seven or eight-years-old. I am also aware of a vehicles radiator that was damaged by a bullet,” Van Staden said.
Van Staden said CPF redirected traffic until after 22:00 on Friday night.
