Local teen makes waves in ballet industry

“She lives and breaths ballet. I am so extremely proud of her. I have faith in her."

It is rare for a 15-year-old to get noticed by someone like South African International Ballet Competition (SAIBC), founder Dirk Badenhorst.

But not for Leap for Joy Dance Studio’s (LFJ) Lizé Mentz. She has the talent, the skills and the flair. The studio is situated in Wapadrand.

The Queen Show presented by Mzansi Ballet and Pieter Toerien Theatre is currently on stage at Montecasino.

Badenhorst invited Lizé to perform at the thrilling, graceful and nostalgic show and share the stage with some of South Africa’s most talented ballet dancers. She is the youngest member of the cast.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity. It is amazing to work with a renown name in the ballet industry like Dirk,” said Lizé.

Later this year, Lizé will be competing at the Margot Fonteyn international ballet competition in London.

According to her coach and owner of LFJ Tanya Fourie, it is just a matter of time before an international ballet school notices Lizé’s natural talent.

“She lives and breathes ballet. I am so extremely proud of her. I have faith in her,” said Fourie.
