Son opens up after east newspaper seller’s death

For more than 20 years, Oom Marius sold newspapers on the corner of Witdoring Avenue and Rubenstein Drive.

Newspaper seller Marius Ehlers’ face will not be forgotten by residents of Moreleta Park.

Oom Marius, as he was known, passed away on Sunday morning, following a heart attack. For more than 20 years, Oom Marius sold newspapers on the corner of Witdoring Avenue and Rubenstein Drive.

“If there is one thing that I will always remember about my father is that family was the most important aspect in your life,” said his son, also Marius.

“One needs to treasure their family. You must do everything in your power to protect and provide for your family. You can either sit and wait for something to come your way, but only you can make it happen.”

Wife, Marietjie feels that it is her duty to share the news about her husband’s death to his loyal clients.

“It is going to be difficult, but I owe it to my husband. About two months ago, I said to Marius that if something might ever happen to him, I will be the one at the corner breaking the news.”

Marietjie wants to thank those who pulled over to support her on Sunday.
