Burglars target north smallholdings

The suspect or suspects apparently fled the property when the standby vehicle arrived at the premises to conduct further investigation.

Residents in north of Pretoria, especially those on smallholdings, have been warned to be alert after several properties were targeted by burglars in the past few days.

At the weekend, an outbuilding on one of the smallholdings in the north of Pretoria was targeted and a storeroom was broken into on 15 February.

“An unknown group of suspects cut the wire from the premises on the side of the road to gain access,” AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch security chief for northern region Hillel Coetzer said.

“The suspects targeted the storage/garage where they gained access by apparently cutting the roll door open. The suspects took various tools namely, CO2 welding machines, lawnmowers and other goods from the garage. ”

It is believed that the stolen goods were loaded into a vehicle waiting for the suspects on the main road.

“More than R20 000 worth of tools are missing from the premises.”

On the same day, another property was also targeted on a smallholding in the north of Pretoria and attempted burglary was reported to AfriForum neighbourhood watch and GAC Risk Solutions.

“A staff member who lives in the worker’s quarters heard the gate open behind his room. He locked himself in his room and heard the suspect or suspects trying to open the other rooms. The worker contacted the owner of the house. The homeowner immediately called the area’s emergency phone and backup was requested.”

The suspect or suspects apparently fled the property when the standby vehicle arrived at the premises to conduct further investigation.

On Sunday, suspects entered another property on one of the smallholdings in the area.

“The resident heard how the suspects opened the gates to gain access to the home. The resident immediately called for help through the area safety radio network.”

It is believed the suspects fled the scene when the security vehicles arrived at the property.

Another incident of entry and an incident of property damage was also reported on 19 February.

“Unknown suspects gained access to the premises by cutting wires. A resident of one of the premises that was targeted allegedly spotted one of the suspects and sent a panic signal to the security company.”

Like the other cases that occurred at the weekend, the suspects fled when the security firm arrived at the premises. However, nothing was reported missing.
