Alternative crafts market in Centurion popular with artists

Local artists of all genres get the opportunity to showcase their wildly eccentric styles.

Are you interested in collectables, jewellery and décor that you can’t necessarily find at your nearest mall? Then you might want to pay a visit to the Alt.Market at Railways Café in Irene every second Saturday.

It’s funky, creative and interesting to browse through the mostly handmade items at each stall.

Local artists of all genres get the opportunity to showcase their wildly eccentric styles with regards to clothing, jewels, hats, shoes, paintings and candles just to name a few, on Saturday, 14 March.

“It’s a unique type of market. All vendors here are extremely creative and this is a perfect platform for them to get some exposure and for people to have a drink while they shop,” says event organiser Simone Maritz.

One such unique vendor is Steven from Dreampunk Steamporium. He makes hats with a twist. If you’re not familiar with Steampunk, then you might want to do some research because his hats are spot on.

“It’s not something you’re going to find at a normal retail store, but a lot of work goes into it, and you can use it for themed parties, dress-up events or whatever you want,” he says.

If you are interested in alternative styles with a little bit of a bohemian flair, this market is for you. To get more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.
