The minister together with officials and the media met outside the family home following a memorial service.
Cele expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, the management and colleagues of Mahlangu.
He also confirmed that no arrests were made but investigations were ongoing.
“This matter is being investigated,” he said.
“We can’t allow ourselves and the investigating team to be deviated. We are going to be investigating the case until we find out what happened, who did it and why.
“Our main interest is to nab the suspects and ensure justice is served. I want to ensure the family that we will crack this case, let’s not get deviated.”
Mahlangu’s nephew Xolani Mahlangu addressed the media at the family’s home on Friday.

An emotional Xolani said the family has put all their faith in the police.
“It’s been tough for us,” he said.
“The family have been crying and getting together for prayer but all shall pass.”
He said the family had received support from officials.
“The police and Ipid have been here to support us and I want to thank the minister for coming to visit us.”
Xolani had fond memories of his uncle, describing him as a family man who always helped them out financially.
“He was indeed a good man. He was a good father to his children.
“He helped me a lot financially and supported me.
“He used to pay for my study fees and promised to even pay for my masters degree before he passed. He helped everyone in the family.”
Xolani said he trusted the police investigation would be fruitful. “I believe police will reveal everything and I trust them.”
