Authorities to help homeless in Laudium
Tshwane Metro together with the Laudium Disaster Management (LDM) team will be looking to move homeless to other shelters across the area.
In the area of Laudium an estimated 50 people is sleeping in the CBD, parks and open spaces.
Tshwane metro with the Laudium Disaster Management (LDM) will be looking to relocate them to other shelters across the area.
On Monday, metro administrators Lebogang Mahaye and Lefadi Matibinyane, social activist Yusuf Abramjee, former councillor Farouk Essop and LDM drove around the area and saw there is still a need to find shelter for people during the lockdown period.
“Many are on drugs. They are living in poor conditions. We saw several staying near the old railway line, along the military road, in poor conditions,” said Abramjee.
“We visited a number of sites. There is a site opening in Pretoria North on Tuesday morning. There is enough capacity to assist the people in two other areas as well.
“We need to get some essential items such as blankets and mattresses so these people can be accommodated in those shelters. The process will hopefully start today,” added Abramjee.
The administrators appealed to the community to assist with donations of mattresses, blankets and clothing. Community members are also urged to not give people donations while they are still staying on the street.
LDM will assist authorities to relocate them.
