SANDF opens case after expired ration packs discovered
“If this proves to be true, these types of actions are tantamount to sabotage of the SANDF’s mandate to protect South Africa.”
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has opened a case of fraud against the supplier of ration packs for its soldiers after it was discovered the packs had expired.
The case was opened on Monday.
The packs, which were supplied to soldiers deployed during the Covid-19 lockdown, allegedly had stickers with new expiry dates placed over the original dates, according to a SANDF press statement.
It was unclear at which of the nationwide SANDF supply depots the discovery was made.
“The case was opened with the military police and a dedicated team has been appointed to investigate,” the statement read.
“Those found to be on the wrong side of the law must face the full might of the law.”
Meanwhile, SANDF chief General Solly Shoke was likened the act to sabotage.
“If this proves to be true, these types of actions are tantamount to sabotage of the SANDF’s mandate to protect South Africa.”
SANDF spokesperson Colonel Louis Kirstein said no further details could be disclosed at this time as the investigation had just started.
