Local sports presenter and reporter dies after a short illness
"He also initiated the first annual walk and several sports tournaments in the community."
Mams FM sports presenter, coordinator and field reporter, Mphaki Mashifane, who died last week, will be laid to rest at the Mamelodi West B3 cemetery today (Friday).
Mashifane (49) died last week Thursday after a short illness.
Mams Radio Operations Manager, Sipho Mpho Motau, said Mashifane aka “Mafashun” on the airwaves was a hard-working person and loved his job.
“Mphaki was a jolly person, always laughing. He used to call everyone “young man” despite their age, race or class. He was good at organising events like toast master classes for the presenters that were struggling with English and confidence.”
Motau said for the seven years that Mashifane worked at the station he contributed a lot.
“He also initiated the first annual walk and several sports tournaments in the community.”
“As a presenter, he was rolling with the big fishes of the South African football. The station would always get all the fresh scoops and exclusive content.”
Mashifane was involved in different charities in Mamelodi.
He leaves behind his mother, a son, two daughters, a brother and two sisters.
The funeral will start at his home in Mahube Valley and proceed to the cemetery.
Mashifane will be missed by his family, friends and fans.
