Gautrain will resume services from Monday

Covid-19 health and safety measures are already implemented at the stations.

On Monday, Gautrain will resume operations on reduced train and bus services with Covid-19 health standard measures in place. This after its services were suspended at the end of March due to the national lockdown.

Following Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula’s announcement of level 4 lockdown regulation, Gautrain also announced its operational plans amid the health crisis.

In line with national government level 4 lockdown regulations, the trains will operate daily between 05:30 to 09:30 and 15:00 to 19:00 in the evening.

From Monday to Friday, the trains will operate at 20-minute intervals and on weekends and public holidays at 30-minute intervals.

Gautrain said as part of measure to curb transmission within the transport sector there will be a random screening of passengers conducted at stations by the department of health field workers.

“We are in the process of procuring disinfecting spray booths which will be installed at the entrance to each station.

“Passengers will be required to walk through the spray booth before entering the station.

“The disinfectant spray is harmless and is just another way in which we hope to curb the spread of the virus,” Gautrain said.

Amongst these, several precautionary measures set to ensure the sector avoids the spread of Covid-19 were announced:

Health and safety measures

– The use of face masks will be compulsory on Gautrain. All passengers and staff are required to wear a face mask at all times at stations and onboard trains, buses or midi-buses. With a limited set of cloth face masks that will be distributed to customers free of charge and it’s recommended that passenger have their own face mask.

– To ensure social distancing the station has floor decals at the stations to assist passengers to keep clear distances. Trains, buses and midi-buses and certain seats have been cordoned off to allow for social distancing.

– Trains, buses and midi-buses are set to be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals throughout the day. Special cleaning staff will be deployed at all stations to wipe-down and disinfect touchpoints, such as handrails.

– All staff in direct contact with customers will be screened for Covid-19 ahead of resuming their normal duties on Monday, 4 May. Staff will be screened for fever throughout the day and have been asked to stay at home if they have any symptoms. Likewise, we appeal to our passengers to also stay at home if they are unwell.

– Alcohol-based hand sanitisers have been made available at all stations and on buses.

– Staff will be wearing the respective personal protective equipment as stipulated by government regulations.
