‘Robbers’ flee during a high-speed chase in Eersterust

Shibambo said two people were quickly apprehended while trying to flee and they were subsequently arrested.

Eersterust police are searching for several alleged business robbers who fled the scene in a high-speed chase on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sam Shibambo said two of their accomplices were arrested after the chase.

“The police received a lookout for a grey Hyundai H1 that the suspects used to flee from a business burglary at Clicks Centurion Tuesday morning. They spotted the vehicle entering Eersterust through Hans Coverdale West Road and they immediately signalled for it to stop.”

Shibambo said the driver of the vehicle sped off leading the police in a high-speed chase around the streets of Eersterust.

“The high-performance police vehicle proved to be more than a match for the suspects’ vehicle as it was quickly cornered. Several suspects bailed out of the vehicle before it came to a halt and ran in different directions on foot.

Shibambo said two people were quickly apprehended while trying to flee and were arrested.

“The vehicle was searched and the police found huge boxes containing various kinds of perfumes valued at thousands of rands, house break-in implements, hand gloves and blue working suits were also found inside the car,” he said.

Both suspects were detained at Eersterust police station pending their first appearance in court.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the other suspects who evaded arrest. The police are hoping to close the net on them soon.
