SPCA Tshwane now offers their clinic services during level 4
“We are losing more than a quarter of our income during this time.”
The SPCA Tshwane’s clinic opened its services during level 4 of the national lockdown.
However, residents can only use this service by appointment only, according to Waltloo branch general manager Dewald Wahlstrand.
“This is basically the only element that has changed between the two lockdown levels at Tshwane SPCA,” he said.
“We are now offering our clinic services to the public.”
He said they also remained open for animal emergencies.
“We have two branches located at Waltloo and Centurion that remain accessible during level 4 lockdown to provide essential animal welfare services to stray, sick, surrendered, abused and unwanted domestic and non-domestic animals,” he said.
He said the branches were staffed by personnel that provided essential day-to-day care, which included the kennel staff, veterinary personnel and the inspectorate unit.
He said they were also open to receiving unwanted animals.
Wahlstrand said they were feeling the strains of the national lockdown financially.
“We are losing more than a quarter of our income during this time,” he said.
“It is really becoming a financial strain for us as we were losing income through services, such as sale of pet products and fundraising events,” he said.
He said donations were welcome.
“The community’s support is desperately needed to ensure that SPCA Tshwane can continue its good work during this time,” he said.
“Your support will ensure that this won’t change. Thank you for the donations already made.”
He said they were not government-funded, and therefore solely relied on the goodwill of the public to support them.
Donations can be done securely online at https://spcapta.org.za/donate-now/. Users should then select Covid-19 support.
Payments can also be made directly into the SPCA Tshwane bank account.
There were also other ways to support the community during this time.
Their charity shops and markets are an important source of income and will re-open after the lockdown. Residents can clear out all their unwanted clothes, furniture, books, paintings, household goods and appliances and keep it aside for them.
For as little as R200 per month you can sponsor a kennel and share your love with a special dog or cat. Your support will provide food, shelter and primary health care for your animal for an entire month.
