115 families receive food parcels from local residents

They do door-to-door deliveries but are adhering to the rules and regulations of the lockdown.

A local resident donated 115 food parcels to families from Winterveldt recently.

Judith Masango is a hairdresser and while she was under lockdown at home, she thought of ways she could help people in her community.

She decided to send random messages to people asking them for donations. Immediately people responded and she managed to get donations.

Families received 12kg mealie meal, a pack of 2kg sugar, tinned beans and fish, cooking oil and other essential food supplies that should last them for a while.

The purpose of making these donations was to help people who are in need during the lockdown.

“I was not under any organisation, I had to look for a nearby organisation so that I can get a permit and have access to the money to be able to buy food. Now I am working with the Goodhope organisation.”

Food parcels to be given to the residents.

The 38-year-old donated food parcels specifically to foreigners who are residing in Winterveldt, Marikana, Slovo, Maribate and other places. Most are from Mozambique or Zimbabwe.

“I chose to donate to foreign nationals because they are not entitled to get food parcels.

“These people have nothing. They are poor. Some have expired passports and they can’t get help. Foreign nationals are really struggling.

“South Africans are not poor, we are able to survive,” she said.

They do door-to-door deliveries but are adhering to the rules and regulations of the lockdown.

“We always have sanitiser and masks and also make sure we are always keeping a distance.”

Sangoma is a Christian and she believes in giving. She told Rekord that “blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives.”

“It is my first time doing this for the community, I believe this pandemic has made a positive impact on my life. If it wasn’t for it I wouldn’t have done everything I am doing today. I am always on the road donating food parcels to households.”

“I am a stylist and I can’t do people’s hair at this moment. I am waiting for level 2 so I can start working. Today I am an essential worker making a change in people’s lives,” she added.

Masango said everything is possible when you believe. She also got help from her church, friends, and residents.

Every two weeks she has Zoom meetings with her team Josh Senosha and Annisa. They identify places that need help and assist them.

She said every day they are donating to families and will continue donating until the pandemic ends.

She plans to open her own NGO one day to take care of the orphans and elders.

“We are still in need of donations. People can donate to us or any organisation. What matters is that we are working towards the same goal. We need to work together in order to survive this pandemic.”

People who would like to make donations can contact Judith Masango on 076-160-6709.
