North informal settlement desperate for water
"When it rains, you have no choice but to collect water from the roof of your shack."

Soshanguve extension 14 informal settlement residents are facing dire circumstances because of a lack of water during the lockdown.
“When it rains, you have no choice but to collect water from the roof of your shack because it is not easy to get any water,” local resident Osborn Mudao told Record.
“Residents fight over a chance to get water, so there are a lot of disputes for water.”
He said that since the taps do not have enough water residents must stand in long queues for water.
“We are really struggling. I know we are not on the municipality’s radar, but when it comes to water, they must make a plan because water is essential,” said Mudao.
Resident Sipho Mbatha claimed the municipality was aware of the water shortage in the area but said the community was being deliberately ignored.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the provision of water storage tanks was an “ongoing process”.
“As of 13 May, the metro has been distributing water through 252 of 10 000 litres of mobile water tankers and 492 of 5 000 litres of water tanks,” he said.
Mashigo said there was a total of 969 water tanks that will be servicing informal settlements in the Tshwane area.
