Nxumalo said 577 cases of the total were active while some have since recovered.
“To date (Thursday, 28 May), DCS has recorded a recovery rate of 23.98% with 184 recoveries.
“Active cases are thus standing at 577.”
Of the new cases, were of seven officials in the Western Cape, four in the Eastern Cape and one in Gauteng.
“Some of the officers stay in the hotspot areas, that’s why we’ve had a high number of officials testing positive.
“However, our increased health response has assisted us to detect the cases soon.
“Health experts advised us not to rely on screening but to conduct more tests because some people might be asymptomatic,” Nxumalo said.
