Total Covid-19 cases in SA tops 30 000

The number of confirmed cases increased by 1 727 since Friday and 32 more people have died.

South Africa now has a total of 30 967 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health announced on Saturday, 30 May 2020.

This is an increase of 1 727 new infections from Friday.

Some 32 more deaths have been recorded bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 643.

According to data released by the Department of Health, a total of 16 116 recoveries have been recorded to date.

The recovery rate was 52%.

A total of 701 883 Covid-19 tests have been conducted.

The following confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in each province, according to the data released on Saturday:

– Western Cape: 20 160 cases
– Gauteng: 3 773 cases
– KwaZulu-Natal: 2 476 cases
– Eastern Cape: 3 759 cases
– Limpopo: 173 cases
– Mpumalanga: 113 cases
– North West: 162 cases
– Northern Cape: 57 cases
– Free State: 261 cases
– Unallocated: 33 cases

Globally over 6 million infections have been recorded on Saturday, with some 368 000 Covid-19-related deaths reported. To date, almost 2,7 million worldwide recoveries have been recorded.
