North NPO gives back to needy during lockdown

The initiative was well received by many families, who came with wheelbarrows to collect essential food parcels containing basic food stuffs.

Pretoria-based NPO The Goodwill distributed food parcels and food vouchers to families in Soshanguve affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.

The initiative was well received by many families, who came with wheelbarrows to collect essential food parcels, containing basic food stuffs such as mielie-meal, sugar, rice, baking flour and other basic groceries.

Lesley Ramudawo (53) started The Goodwill in 2006 to share the goodness of God and do the Lord’s work in the community.

After the lockdown was extended, I noticed that a lot of the people in the community started struggling just to get the basics.

That is what prompted me to lend a helping hand, said Ramudawo.

He said his organisation would help those hit the hardest by the lockdown.

Food parcels filled with groceries was given to the community.

As most of our people are at home not working and not having any income, they cannot afford to feed and support their families, he said.

Many also had their salaries reduced or has no income opportunities at all, which left them in need of help.

Ramudawo said that the NPO distributed food parcels and food vouchers of R1 000 to various households to sustain them during the lockdown.

I asked people who could help to get me a list of households affected by the lockdown so that we could organise food parcels, he said.

The final list had 250 names on it.

We donated 100 food parcels to the community and handed out 30 food vouchers to other households.

Lesley Ramudawo (53).

We are still willing to donate again in the coming month.

We hope the donation will make a real difference to these communities, said Ramudawo.

Soshanguve community member, Renae Modille, who benefited from the food parcels said the community was grateful to have received the parcels.

The organisation helped us a lot as the items we received were things we needed the most to sustain us through the lockdown, she said.

People who donate to communities should not go unnoticed as they play a huge role, especially during this lockdown. God should bless everyone who do good unto others in this time.
