North old age home needs assistance during lockdown
Wisani old age home and hospice in Hammanskraal is in desperate need of food, clothes, toiletries and any donation to help sustain the centre during this pandemic.

The nationwide lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on many non-profit organisations.
Wisani old age home and hospice in Hammanskraal is in desperate need of food, clothes, toiletries and any donation to help sustain the centre during this pandemic.
“Currently we are relying on donations to survive because we are not yet funded by the government,” said founder Sophy Bilankulu.
The home currently takes care of 43 people from the age of 60 and up.
“The purpose of the hospice is to ensure the elders ultimately enjoy a life of dignity, respect, security and equality, free from violence, maltreatment or exploitation,” she said.
Bilankulu said she started the organisation because she wanted to promote and protect the rights and well-being of older people and keep them from abuse and negligence.

“Not everyone can take care of the elderly as they require patience, love and attention. At Wisani old age home and hospice we are providing the best care to ensure they are well.
“I had a vision taking care of our elders so I started this organisation. I am loving the work I am doing. Seeing the elders happy fills my heart with joy.”
She told Rekord that the donations will go a long way in making this winter bearable.
“They are our mothers and fathers who need our love and support. We appeal to business owners and the community to help us with any kind of donation,” she said.
“Winter is here and we need warm clothing, jackets, socks, furniture, household goods, bedding, kitchenware, food, blankets and medication.”
