Now more than 5 000 Covid-19 cases in Gauteng
Recoveries in the province also passed the 2 000 mark.

On Saturday, the Gauteng Department of Health confirmed the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province was 5 215, with 2344 recoveries and 40 deaths.
According to the department, out of a total of 15 435 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19), 10 934 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were then taken out of isolation.
The department said 313 people were hospitalised for Covid-19 in public and private health facilities.
Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries as follows:
– Johannesburg: 2 517 cases and 1 361 recoveries.
– Ekurhuleni: 1 067 cases and 566 recoveries.
– Tshwane: 660 cases and 329 recoveries.
– Sedibeng: 120 cases and 28 recoveries.
– West Rand: 458 cases and 60 recoveries.
The department indicated that there were 64 unallocated cases in the province.

Rand West City: 42 cases
Merafong City: 231 cases
And 54 unallocated case.
“Allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts is ongoing. After obtaining further information on contact numbers and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD), we are able to make corrections where a case might have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district,” the department added.
