Ex-drug addict wants to help others
“I would like to encourage any parent or family of addicts to not give up on their children."
A former nayope addict from Pretoria Central wants to help people struggling with drugs by starting a “home for the homeless” project.
The 21-year-old Comfort Senoamadi has been drug-free since 2013.
He has lots of plans for the future, including pursuing a law degree next year.
“Now that I am free from drugs, I can now run my own waste management and environmental protection business,” he told Rekord.
Senoamadi got help in kicking his addiction at the at the Dr Fabian and Florence Ribeiro treatment centre in Cullinan.
“By God’s grace I am still doing well without drugs,” he said.
He also told Rekord about his negative experiences as a drug addict.
“I lost many friends, brothers and sisters while I was an addict.
“Some patients at the rehab also lost their jobs, family, husbands and wives.
“I have seen parents, who are addicts, have their kids taken by social workers – which was really painful.

“From my experience, I would say nyoape is a far-reaching demon: it does not care whether you are rich or wear designer clothes.
“It literally tears you into pieces both psychologically and emotionally.
“With the help from a young lady named Nathalia Masubelele I have really changed my life.
“In a world full of freedom of expression and billions of caring strangers, I challenge you not to stay silent about your problems,” he said.
“I have helped many people who were on drugs over the past years ever since I met Comfort,” Nathalia Masubelele told Rekord.
“The people I help often come back and check up on me, just to give a word of thanks and also to tell me how their lives have changed.
“I would like to encourage any parent or family of addicts to not give up on their children.
“Drug addiction is very dangerous, especially when they try to use it for pain relief.
“Parents and relatives should give them their full support and take care of them while they grow.
“I personally believe that everyone deserves a second chance.”
