Food parcels donated to 200 families
The aim of donating food parcels was to ensure less fortunate families didn’t go to sleep with empty stomachs.
A local organisation helped around 200 families from Mamelodi with food parcels on Saturday.
This generous donation was made by the members of the Community First Foundation, in partnership with local tuck shop owners across Mamelodi.
The aim of donating food parcels was to ensure less fortunate families didn’t go to sleep with empty stomachs, according to foundation chairperson Clearance Gaga Ngobeni.
“Most of our members are residents of Mamelodi and were able to identify the families in need because they live in the same area.
“Everyone deserves a good meal and our main goal is to make sure everyone has food on the table.”
Ngobeni said members and spaza shop owners divided themselves into groups and personally went to visit the families to donate food parcels.

“Due to Covid-19 rules and regulations, door-to-door deliveries were made by a small group while adhering to regulations.
“We always have sanitiser and masks and also make sure we are always keeping an appropriate distance.”
Families received 12kg mealie meal, a pack of 2kg sugar, tinned beans and fish, cooking oil and other essential food supplies, including vegetables, that should last them for a while.
The organisation consists of 30 young inspirational business people of Mamelodi. It was formed in 2018 with the aim of providing struggling residents with a better life.
Ngobeni said they help the community with “anything” and recently managed to donate full school uniforms to local learners and as well as donating wheelchairs for Mamelodi disability centres.

The donation of school uniforms was aimed at encouraging the learners to go to school every day and not to bunk classes.
Another community project the foundation is committed to, was to help families bury their loved ones by assisting with funeral arrangements.
Ngobeni concluded that the organisation aims to see a change in Mamelodi, and to share the little they have by helping out wherever help is needed.
The members also encourage the public to please adhere to the rules and regulation of Covid-19 and most importantly to stay at home and be safe.
