Professional chefs cook for the needy
The meals were made possible thanks to Chefs with Compassion, a Johannesburg-based charity organisation, in co-operation with the Mamelodi Covid-19 organisation.
People at the Katlego day and night care centre were treated to some tasty vegetable soup on Saturday, freshly prepared by professional chefs.
The meals were made possible thanks to Chefs with Compassion, a Johannesburg-based charity organisation, in co-operation with the Mamelodi Covid-19 organisation.
“Chefs with Compassion approached us to help during this tough time,” said Peace Maroga a member of Mamelodi Covid-19 organisation.
“We partnered in identifying needy families that desperately need food.”
Maroga said his organisation helped with collecting the freshly cooked meals from Capsicum Culinary Studio and delivering them at Mamelodi every day.

He said Chefs with Compassion also donated fresh fruit and vegetables.
“There is nothing in the world that could compare to the feeling you get from of giving to people who probably do not have a way of providing for themselves,” he said.
“This shows there is more that needs to be done and if people have something to give, then we can change someone’s life.”
In addition to this project, the Mamelodi Covid-19 organisation wants to to reach out to families who do not have any food during the lockdown.
“We want to also lift the spirits of less-fortunate families and help them find jobs,” said Maroga.
“After assisting a family, they should be able to fend for themselves as we also help them to find jobs.
“We are working closely with various departments and contractors to help find jobs for these families.”
Maroga said they will continue helping the less-fortunate even after lockdown.

Their plans include donating more food parcels to Mamelodi as well as Nellmapius residents.
Another project of theirs is the donation of sanitary towels to schools.
Anyone interested in helping are welcome to contact them.
“We will deliver the food for them,” said Maroga.
“These generous donations came at just the right time when they were needed the most,” said Sello Shulas Mashula of the Katlego day and night care centre.
“Working with them will help feed many families in Mamelodi – and not just the care centre.”
