North schools satisfied about reopening this week
“After 83 days of restraint, the matrics are back at school for the first time today,” Hoërskool Montana’s headmaster Sakkie Jacobs said.
A Pretoria North high school is ready for the re-opening of schools following a week’s postponement at the beginning of the month, when the national lockdown regulations were relaxed to level 3.
Last week, various school teachers, learners and parents were left disappointed when the re-opening date was postponed by the department of education. The department made a late announcement about the readiness of the schools to commence following more than two months of lockdown.
“After 83 days of restraint, the matrics are back at school for the first time today,” Hoërskool Montana’s headmaster Sakkie Jacobs said.
“Welcome back everyone! Now it is shoulder to shoulder to get back into rhythm. The majority are positive and ready to make a huge success of 2020. We are grateful for that. It is so that many of you have been deprived but each one now has a choice of how you will approach the rest of the year. Oprah Winfrey puts it beautifully: ‘Be thankful for what you have and you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never ever have enough’.”

Jacobs reassured the school would do everything within its power to get the learners ready for the final exams.
“You also have a responsibility. You still have a leading school that you can attend at a time like this. Make the best use of every opportunity. We know that when the matric results are announced, we will have a broad chest again. We believe in you and we stand firmly behind you. Let’s do it!,” Jacobs encouraged the matrics on the first day back at school.
Other high schools in the north which were left disappointed when the re-opening of the schools were postponed include Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz and the Amandasig Secondary School.
Martin Botha, the Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz principal previously told Rekord the teachers from his school were very disappointed when the news broke that the schools had to wait a bit longer to open their doors.
“We are definitely disappointed, the teachers were so excited for the school to re-open,” he said.
