North police station receives safety regulation visit

The visit was to ensure that all members are making use of facial masks, hand sanitisers and that social distancing is being practised at the station.

Police brigadier Petunia Lenono and members of Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) visited Sinoville police station on Thursday for safety regulation measures.

The Sunnyside police station was closed on 18 May after one of their members tested positive for Covid-19.

All members are adhering to the facial masks, hand sanitizers and social distancing regulations.

SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the building underwent a decontamination process to ensure all their members are safe and ready to work.

“She (employee who tested positive) had not been on duty since 22 April, but came into the station for one day after that.

“As a result of that one day, management decided to close the station as a precautionary measure. The staff was evacuated.”

According to Naidoo, the station was not expected to be closed for more than 48 hours. They made sure the decontamination process was quick.

He said all members who came in contact with the officer were screened and tested as part of protocol.

Brigadier Lenono and her team had to ensured that all members are making use of facial masks, hand sanitizers and when visitors arrive in the station make use of the social distancing regulations.

Lenono had commended the members for their effort of observing all safety protocols and regulations when delivering the services to the community.

“I have also encouraged members to utilise all services that are offered by EHW.

“Some of the members keep up their spirits during these challenging times with funny masks to ensure that members of the public still see that they render services with a smile,” she concluded.
