West families receive food parcel donations

“We use our own funds to put together these food parcels and we contribute as much as we can afford”

More than 20 families from Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, received food parcel donations put together by a group of car enthusiasts.

“We want to help wherever possible,” founder of the Kia Koup Lifestyle group Rodney Tebogo Marx said.

In their endeavour to assist those who were struggling to make ends meet during the national lockdown, the car enthusiasts partnered with police from the township to hand out 22 food parcels each which the car owners had put together.

“We use our own funds to put together these food parcels and we contribute as much as we can afford,” Marx explained.

Marx said although they started off as purely a fan club and social group in 2018, their members quickly saw it was a vehicle they could use to share hope and joy among different communities.

“It’s so fantastic to see a car club come together and start doing community work,” he said, adding they regularly organised community upliftment events and joined in to assist where help was needed.

Other projects the group participated in included cleaning up litter around roads in Gauteng along with painting projects at schools and crèches which were in need.

“We are like-minded people from all across Gauteng and we are thankful to be able to help those less fortunate,” Marx said, adding their motto was “every bit counts”.

Marx said they encouraged other car enthusiast groups to do something similar as “every single food parcel helps at least one family”.

“To that one family it makes a huge difference,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kia Motors SA CEO Gary Scott lauded the donation made by the group.

“While the group organised this food drive independently, we are delighted to see our passionate owners heeding the call to support vulnerable communities in need,” he said.
