Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 14 620

Number of confirmed cases increases by 1 597 since Tuesday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 14 620 with 3 756 recoveries on Wednesday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Thursday.

The department said out of 20 906  contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person tested positive for Covid-19), 13 718 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

No new deaths were recorded, the total remained at 87.

The department said 678 people were currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 7 229 cases and 2 017 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 2 970 cases and 890 recoveries
– Tshwane: 2 116 cases and 496 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 434 cases and 65 recoveries
– West Rand: 1 061 cases and 288 recoveries
