Work on east bulk water pipeline under way
A new reservoir, which is to be built in Vlakfontein, would increase water supply capacity in the area.

Construction work on a new bulk water pipe for the Rietvlei dam has been delayed by about three months because of Covid-19.
“The scheduled completion was 15 months but because of the virus it will now be 18 months,” said the project manager for the H46 portion B of the pipeline, Nikki Carnicelli.
The water pipeline runs from Vlakfontein reservoir in Benoni to Rietfontein dam.
Carnicelli is project manager for only one section of the pipeline, which stretches 19km altogether.
According to Carnicelli, the tender for the pipe was actually done in 2017 but only granted last year.
“We have been appointed for 4.6km, split into four packages. We were one of the companies executing one of the packages.”
The 4.6km stretches between Woodhill country club and Bronberg reservoir.

“It will be an inconvenience for those estates that will affected (Plantland, Meander A and Meander B estates and Olievenhout estate), but we have taken all aspects into consideration to make life easier for them.
“Woodhill country club estate is currently in litigation with the owner. Until an agreement is reached, we don’t have access. That section is 1.3km of the 4.6km. We thus have access to 3.3km.
“Section one comprises of 900m and has been concluded. During section three, we will be commencing with earth works from Bronberg reservoir heading to Dombeya estate. We will commence with earthworks next week Monday,” said Carnicelli.
Raubex infra/Enza Construction JV Venture was appointed by the Rand Water to complete the construction of the project.

A new reservoir, which is to be built in Vlakfontein, would increase water supply capacity in the area.
The contractor and Rand Water representatives have engaged with property custodians and owners during the planning period.
