Tshwane buildings affected by Covid-19 to reopen

"This was to determine if the buildings are ready to be reopened for work purposes."

The Tshwane metro will this week reopen some of its buildings that had to shut due to staff members testing positive for Covid-19 cases.

About 10 of the metro buildings, including the metro’s headquarters, the Tshwane House and the Mamelodi Mini Monitoria were closed after positive cases were reported. Administrator Lebogang Mahye said the metro’s health department, through its municipal health services section, conducted an inspection at the two facilities on 18 and 19 June respectively.

“This was to determine if the buildings are ready to be reopened for work purposes,” she said.

“Both buildings were recommended to be opened, Tshwane House was opened on Friday, 19 June and Mamelodi Mini Monitoria will be open on Monday, 22 June.

The inspection’s findings are as follows:

– There was sufficient provision of hand sanitisers – 70% alcohol provided at all entrances.

– There was regular disinfection of work surfaces and equipment.

– There was regular cleaning of common areas and shared surfaces e.g. door handles and toilets.

– The biometric systems were disabled or make them Covid-19 proof.

– There were adequate facilities for washing hands with soap and clean water.

– There are physical barriers at counters or provision of face shields or visors at reception area at Tshwane House.

– Screening for Covid-19 symptoms is done in the parking area and at reception for all members of the public and employees.

– All protocols were followed and the buildings were decontaminated.

Other buildings which were closed include:

– Rayton municipal offices

– Silverton fire station

– C De Wet SCM stores

– Rosslyn electrical depot

– Subtransmission electricity depot at C De Wet building

– FF Riberio clinic

– Folang clinic

– Silverton clinic

– All buildings were assessed by municipal health services and should be back in operation from Monday, 22 June.
