Lover held as man’s body found under bed in CBD

“The victim had fatal injuries to his upper body. Police were called to the scene and arrested the woman after she could not explain the circumstances that led to the victim’s demise.”

Pretoria was hit by a “horror story’ this week, after the body of a 40-year-old man was discovered under the bed of a 22-year-old woman in the CBD.

The victim was Dennis Kyazze, a Ugandan whose brother described the incident as “a horror event that is hard and devastating on the family and friends”.

“It’s scary and we are still traumatised after finding his body under the bed,” said brother Ivan Namalala.

He suspected that the body had been under the bed for several days.

“Kyazze owned two shops, one in central Pretoria and another one in Marabastad. He was a very simple down-to-earth person of few words.”

He said he could not reveal more as that could jeopardise the current investigation.

Meanwhile, a social media video clip showed the lifeless body of Kyazee, while the woman was being confronted by the deceased’s brother and friends.

In the video, the woman denied any involvement in her boyfriend’s death.

“Can you not see that I am in pain?” she can be heard saying.

“I know you are saying all these things against me because I’m South African. If I was from your country, you will not be scolding me and accusing me of killing my boyfriend.”

In the video, a man can be heard also asking the woman if she was not complicit in the alleged beating of Kyazee.

The woman appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Monday, for allegedly killing her boyfriend.

Regional National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the matter was postponed to 29 June, “for bail information”.

She said the accused would remain in custody “and NPA will oppose bail”.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said the victim’s lifeless body was found by his brother on Thursday evening.

“The brother, who had been unable to reach the victim on his phone, reportedly visited the victim’s home.

“There it is reported that he found the victim’s lifeless body under a bed. The victim’s girlfriend was also still at the house.

“The victim had fatal injuries to his upper body. Police were called to the scene and arrested the woman after she could not explain the circumstances that led to the victim’s demise.”
