Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 26 156

The number of confirmed cases increased by 2 115 since Tuesday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 26 156 with 6 627 recoveries and 147 deaths on Wednesday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Thursday.

The department said out of 24 905 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 16 527 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 1 045 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 12 892 cases and 3 670 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 5 377 cases and 1 335 recoveries
– Tshwane: 4 059 cases and 972 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 861 cases and 110 recoveries
– West Rand: 1 758 cases and 540 recoveries
