Six suspected bank robbers busted in Menlyn

“Upon searching the suspects, police found unlicensed firearms. It was also established that one of the cars was fitted with false number plates.”

Six suspects were arrested in Menlyn on Thursday in connection with bank robberies around Gauteng.

The group was arrested after they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and using a vehicle with cloned number plates, according to police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.

The arrests follow “intelligence-driven information” that led the Gauteng police’s organised crime unit to Tshwane, where the suspects driving two different cars were spotted.

“The cars were intercepted at Menlyn Mall at about 12:00. Upon searching the suspects, police found unlicensed firearms. It was also established that one of the cars was fitted with false number plates.”

The men face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms.

“More charges might be added pending the investigation.”
