Covid-19: Gauteng cases climb to 107 070

5 576 people currently hospitalised in public and private health facilities.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 107 070 with 40 144 recoveries and 726 deaths on Tuesday.

The Department of Health on Wednesday said out of 45 429 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 27 755  people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 5 576 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 48 314 cases and 23 075 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 23 767 cases and 9 708 recoveries
– Tshwane:  18 269 cases and 4 346 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 5 839 cases and 1 116 recoveries
– West Rand: 7 121 cases and 1 899 recoveries

City of Tshwane 18 269 cases breakdown:

– City of Tshwane 1: Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karen Park, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig, Theresa Park, Pretoria North (3 768);
– City of Tshwane 2: Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, Marokolong, Randstown, Kanana (1 103);
– City of Tshwane 3: Atteridgeville, Laudium, Pretoria CBD, Hercules, Danville, Saulsville, Lotus, Pretoria West (5 741);

In the Tshwane district, the department reported 89 unallocated cases.

– City of Johannesburg B: Randburg, Rosebank, Emmarentia, Greenside, Melville, Mayfair, Northcliff, Parktown, Parktown North (5 277);
– City of Johannesburg C: Roodepoort, Constantia Kloof, Northgate, Florida, Bram Fisherville (6 487);
– City of Johannesburg D: Doornkop, Soweto, Dobsonville, Protea Glen (10 739);
– City of Johannesburg E: Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove, Houghton (7 802);
– City of Johannesburg F: Inner City, Johannesburg South (9 200); and

The department said there were 358 unallocated cases within the district.

Ekurhuleni 23 767 cases breakdown:

– Ekurhuleni East 2: Springs, Kwa-Thema, Duduza, Nigel (2 391);
– Ekurhuleni North 1: Birchleigh, Birchleigh North, Bonaero Park, Crystal Park, Erin, Ethafeni, Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Tembisa, Winnie Mandela (4 635);
– Ekurhuleni North 2: Bedfordview, Benoni, Boksburg, Chief Albert Luthuli, Dan Kubheka, Edenvale, Endayeni, Esangweni, Itireleng, Kemston, Lethabong, Ramaphosa, Reiger Park, Van Dyk Park (5 664);
– Ekurhuleni South 1: Alberton, Brackenhurst, Eden Park, Primrose, Germiston, Leondale, Dawn Park, Tswelopele, Vosloorus, Villa Liza (5 825); and

The district had 50 unallocated cases.

Sedibeng district 5 839 cases breakdown:

– Lesedi: 982 cases;
– Emfuleni: 4 306  cases;
– Midvaal: 509 cases;
– And 42  unallocated cases.

West Rand district 7 121 cases breakdown:
– Mogale City: 3752 cases;
– Rand West City: 1 703 cases;
– Merafong City: 1 575  cases;

And 91 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
