Covid-19: Gauteng cases climb to 112 714

More than 5 000 new cases recorded in the province since Tuesday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 112 714 with 45 743 recoveries and 767 deaths as of Wednesday.

The Department of Health on Thursday said out of 46 436 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 29 128  have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 5 576 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 50 364 cases and 25 463 recoveries

– Ekurhuleni: 24 948 cases and 10 652 recoveries

– Tshwane: 19 664 cases and 6 117 recoveries

– Sedibeng: 6 269 cases and 1 203 recoveries

– West Rand: 7 532 cases and 2 308 recoveries

City of Tshwane 19 664 cases breakdown:

– City of Tshwane 1: Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karen Park, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig, Theresa Park, Pretoria North (4 102);

– City of Tshwane 2: Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, Marokolong, Randstown, Kanana (1 211);

– City of Tshwane 3: Atteridgeville, Laudium, Pretoria CBD, Hercules, Danville, Saulsville, Lotus, Pretoria West (6 218);

– City of Tshwane 4: Lyttelton, Eldoraigne, Waterkloof, Olievenhoutbosch, Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, Brooklyn, Hatfield (3 615);

In the Tshwane district, the department reported 90 unallocated cases.

City of Johannesburg 50 364 cases breakdown:

– City of Johannesburg A: Diepsloot, Kya Sands, Dainfern, Midrand, Lanseria, Fourways, Ivory Park (4 816);

– City of Johannesburg B: Randburg, Rosebank, Emmarentia, Greenside, Melville, Mayfair, Northcliff, Parktown, Parktown North (5 526);

– City of Johannesburg C: Roodepoort, Constantia Kloof, Northgate, Florida, Bram Fisherville (6 710);

– City of Johannesburg D: Doornkop, Soweto, Dobsonville, Protea Glen (11 170);

– City of Johannesburg E: Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove, Houghton (8 263);

– City of Johannesburg F: Inner City, Johannesburg South (9 480); and

– City of Johannesburg G: Orange Farm, Weilers Farm, Ennerdale, Lenasia, Eldorado Park, Protea South (4 041).

The department said there were 358 unallocated cases within the district.

Ekurhuleni 24 948 cases breakdown:

– Ekurhuleni East 1: Etwatwa, Daveyton, Brakpan, Tsakane (3 042);

– Ekurhuleni East 2: Springs, Kwa-Thema, Duduza, Nigel (2 523);

– Ekurhuleni North 1: Birchleigh, Birchleigh North, Bonaero Park, Crystal Park, Erin, Ethafeni, Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Tembisa, Winnie Mandela (4 862);

– Ekurhuleni North 2: Bedfordview, Benoni, Boksburg, Chief Albert Luthuli, Dan Kubheka, Edenvale, Endayeni, Esangweni, Itireleng, Kemston, Lethabong, Ramaphosa, Reiger Park, Van Dyk Park (5 914);

– Ekurhuleni South 1: Alberton, Brackenhurst, Eden Park, Primrose, Germiston, Leondale, Dawn Park, Tswelopele, Vosloorus, Villa Liza (6 129); and

– Ekurhuleni South 2: Thokoza, Greenfields, Katlehong, Moleleki, Zonkizizwe, Palm Ridge, Tsietsi Sunrise View, Tamaho, Khumalo, Motsamai (2 428).

The district had 50 unallocated cases.

Sedibeng district 6 269 cases breakdown:

– Lesedi: 1 022 cases;

– Emfuleni: 4 654 cases;

– Midvaal: 551 cases;

– And 42 unallocated cases.

West Rand district 7532 cases breakdown:

– Mogale City: 3 972 cases;

– Rand West City: 1 800 cases;

– Merafong City: 1 669 cases;

– And 91 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
